UK lectures/seminars: September 2024

I am currently nearing the end of a research visit to the UK, during which I was privileged to share my work at three invited events. On 11 September 2024, I delivered a guest lecture pertaining to my current work on urban collectives as victims of international human rights violations, jointly organised by the Urban Institute and the School of Geography and Planning at the University of Sheffield. I spoke on the same topic at a seminar for the University of Glasgow’s School of Social and Political Sciences on 17 September. Then, on 26 September, I presented a seminar entitled “Urban law and crisis governance in South African cities”, mostly based on my and Amanda Spies’ forthcoming joint publication in Urban Studies on private sector involvement in crisis governance in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality, for the Geopolitics, Development, Security and Justice Research Group at the Department of Geography at Royal Holloway University of London. I am extremely grateful to the organisers of all three events and gained much from interactions with audience members.
