From January 2019 I will be a fellow of the South African Research Chair in Cities, Law and Environmental Sustainability at NorthWest University (NWU) Potchefstroom. The chair is held by prof. Anél Du Plessis in the NWU Faculty of Law.

As its name suggests, the Chair in Cities, Law and Environmental Sustainability (CLES) will be focused from 2019-2024 on scholarly research that contributes to the knowledge field of cities (urban development), law and environmental sustainability. The Chair is devoted to knowledge generation in the hybrid area of comparative and South African constitutional law, environmental law, urban law and development, local government law and (good) local governance. CLES researchers will individually and collectively work in this area of study from international, African regional and South African law perspectives. The Chair comprises of a dynamic team of approximately 12 researchers (full-time final year LLB, masters and doctoral students, as well postdoctoral fellows) with an extensive network in South Africa and beyond.

As fellow of the chair, I intend to collaborate with prof. Du Plessis and her team on a number of exciting projects.
