The Environmental Law Association of South Africa (ELA) has been hosting monthly “streaming club” events during the Covid-19 lockdown. These consist of ELA members streaming a topical documentary, followed by a panel discussion on issues raised by the film. Tonight, I had the pleasure of participating in the panel discussing a short film on the Cape Town based social movement Reclaim the City, who has recently won a major court case pertaining to the interactions between the South African constitutional rights of access to housing and equitable access to land. With me on the panel was Ndifuna Ukwazi’s Mandisa Shandu and Tarryn Cooper-Bell from the Equal Education Law Centre, both of whom were involved in the case. See more details of the event here.
